About Us
The Nursing Directorate is one of the eight directorates at Mbeya Zonal Referral Hospital. It is structured into four departments and three specialized units. The departments include Nursing and Housekeeping, Social Welfare, Catering, and Central Sterilization. The units comprise Laundry, Tailoring, and the Hospital Quality Improvement Unit.
The directorate’s primary mandate is to provide high-quality nursing care to both inpatients and outpatients across all areas of the hospital, including wards(inpatients), theatres, and outpatient clinics.


Currently, the Directorate serves approximately 410 inpatients in various wards and attends to 1200 outpatients and emergency cases. The workforce includes a total of 115 nurses, out of which 89 are registered nurses (with several graduates trained in various specialties) and 26 are enrolled nurses. In addition, the Directorate has 5 social welfare officers and 65 supporting staff.
